Jewellery Care Guide
Caring For Your Pushpira Jewellery
A piece of fine jewellery is not just an object. It is a living thing — it absorbs your warmth, catches your light, and over time, becomes part of your story. With the right care, it will remain as beautiful decades from now as the day it arrived in your hands.
This guide is our way of making sure it does.
Lab Grown Diamonds
Lab grown diamonds are diamonds in every sense — same hardness, same brilliance, same chemical composition as their mined counterparts. But like all precious stones, they deserve to be treated with care.
Do
- Clean your diamond jewellery regularly using a soft-bristled brush, warm water, and a drop of mild dish soap. Gently scrub, rinse thoroughly, and pat dry with a lint-free cloth.
- Store pieces individually in a soft pouch or the Pushpira box they arrived in — diamonds can scratch other gemstones and metals.
- Have your diamond jewellery professionally cleaned and inspected once a year. Prongs loosen over time. Catching it early saves the stone.
Avoid
- Chlorine and harsh chemicals — these can damage metal settings and dull the surface over time. Remove your jewellery before swimming, cleaning, or using beauty products.
- Ultrasonic cleaners at home unless you are certain your setting is secure — vibrations can loosen stones.
- Wearing diamond jewellery during heavy physical activity, exercise, or manual work.
Gold Jewellery
Gold is enduring, but it is not indestructible. It scratches, it bends, and it loses its lustre when neglected.
Do
- Clean gold jewellery with warm soapy water and a soft cloth. Buff gently and dry completely before storing.
- Store gold pieces separately to prevent scratching — gold is a soft metal and marks easily against harder surfaces.
- Polish with a jeweller's cloth periodically to restore its natural warmth and glow.
Avoid
- Perfume, hairspray, and lotions directly on gold — always put your jewellery on last, after your routine.
- Exposure to chlorine, which can permanently discolour and weaken gold alloys.
- Leaving gold in direct sunlight for extended periods.
Pearl Jewellery
Pearls are among the most delicate of all fine jewellery materials. They are organic, porous, and sensitive to their environment. They require the most gentle handling of all.
This one is personal to us — pearls are where our story began.
Do
- Wipe pearls with a soft, damp cloth after every wear to remove skin oils, sweat, and residue. This single habit will dramatically extend their life.
- Store pearls separately, ideally wrapped in a soft cloth or in their own pouch — never loose in a jewellery box where they can be scratched by metal or harder stones.
- Restring pearl necklaces and bracelets periodically — the silk thread weakens over time, especially with regular wear.
- Allow pearls to breathe — store them in a slightly breathable pouch rather than an airtight container.
Avoid
- Any chemical contact — perfume, hairspray, makeup, and cleaning products are all damaging to the nacre.
- Water immersion — do not wear pearls while swimming, bathing, or washing.
- Dry heat and direct sunlight, which can cause pearls to crack, discolour, or lose their lustre permanently.
- Hanging pearl necklaces for storage — this stretches the thread over time.
General Rules for All Fine Jewellery
Regardless of the metal or stone, these habits will protect every piece in your collection:
Last on, first off.
Put your jewellery on after your skincare, perfume, and makeup routine. Take it off before anything else at the end of the day.
One piece at a time.
Store pieces individually. Diamonds scratch gold. Gold scratches pearls. A little separation goes a long way.
Keep it dry.
Water itself is rarely the enemy — but what comes with it is. Chlorine in pools, salt in the sea, and chemicals in cleaning products are all damaging to fine jewellery. Make it a habit to remove pieces before any contact with water.
Rest it when you rest.
Remove your jewellery before sleeping. Chains tangle, prongs catch on fabric, and settings weaken under repeated pressure.
Check in regularly.
Inspect your jewellery from time to time — especially rings and pieces worn daily. Look for loose stones, weakened clasps, or worn prongs. Bring anything that concerns you to us before a small issue becomes a lost stone.
We Are Always Here
If your Pushpira piece ever needs cleaning, resizing, restringing, or repair — please do not attempt to fix it yourself. Bring it to us.
